Sony’s “PlayStationJP” channel released a new trailer for the much anticipated Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-, which showcases a completely different take on the series as it moves into next-gen.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- is the first “new” title in the series for quite some time; with the exceptions being the RPG Guilty Gear 2 Overture and the bizarre Pro Jumper! Guilty Gear Tangent!? spin-off, most of the other titles in the series have been updates to Guilty Gear XX #Reload.

The next chapter of Guilty Gear will be the first in the “fighting” series to use 3D models and environments; GG Xrd uses Unreal Engine, and features cel-shaded models to emulate the feel of the hand-drawn 2D sprites from previous games, as highlighted in new Special and Slash animations to accent attacks and finishers. Most of the iconic characters will return, but with new redesigns to match the Guilty Gear chronology, as Xrd is set one year after the events of Overture; characters confirmed by both trailers include Sol Badguy, Ki Kiske, Chipp, May, Potemkin, Venom, Axl, I-No, Millia and Venom:

Guilty Gear xrd -SIGN- will be available in 2014 as a PS3/PS4 exclusive.
