Gearbox Software’s HD release of Homeworld is available for pre-order, just not through any specific outlets yet; it happens to be part of their Community Day bundle.
For the past two years, Gearbox hosted their annual Gearbox Community Day event in Dallas, TX, however the developer is taking a different approach this year, in the form of a Twitch.tv event; as the past events were only open to those able to travel to Texas, Gearbox hopes that having an online event will reach fans on a worldwide scale. Because Community Day 2013 will be a Twitch.tv event, viewers will need to purchase a Twitch membership for HD streaming, however Gearbox has created a way around that, with the “Digital Bonus Pack”: The Digital Bonus Pack is available through Twitch.tv, and contains access to the high-definition stream of Community Day, Borderlands 2 SHiFT Codes to unlock exclusive Heads and Skins, access to a closed-beta for an unannounced future Gearbox title, and copies of Homeworld Classic and Homeworld HD at launch.
Homeworld was released in 1999 for PC, was developed by Relic Entertainment and published by Sierra Entertainment; Homeworld was the first real-time-strategy game to feature 3D models and environments. It was announced at PAX Australia that Gearbox acquired the Homeworld license and was working on a future HD release.
The Digital Bonus Pack is available for $19.99, and can be purchased through Twitch.tv. While the event itself will be a stream, an all-day watch-party will be held at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas, TX. Gearbox Community Day 2013 will be held on Sept. 14.
