Marc Whitten of Microsoft shared more details about the Xbox One with fans yesterday, including Reputation scores, signing into multiple systems and pre-loading digital games.
In the most recent edition of IGN’s “Ask Microsoft Anything”, Chief Xbox One Platform Architect Mark Whitten answered a few questions regarding the social aspects of Xbox Live, digital purchases and media services. According to Whitten, the One will allow for games to be pre-installed to be played at midnight of their launch date, however this feature will not be available at the console’s launch. The Reputation scoring system featured on the 360 will be present on the new console, but current scores will not transfer; Xbox Live members currently with exceptional standing will start over with the “Good” social level. As some developers and publishers plan to support the Xbox 360 for another few years, some gamers may use both consoles at some point; if a Live user signs into a 360 console, they can also sign into the One, however they can only be signed into one of each at any given time (one 360 and one One, not two 360’s/One’s).
With the current Xbox Live Arcade library, every digital title includes a free demo to try before purchase; Xbox One will not have this feature, but Whitten says that Microsoft is working “on lots of ways to make it easy for [the gamer] to find and try new games on the service.” Whitten also revealed that the Xbox One is not a native media center, but Microsoft is working on multiple ways of bringing TV streaming to the console.
The Xbox One and Kinect 2 release sometime this November.
