Video games have been linked to yet another case of real-world violence- this time, the recent Washington Navy Yard incident.
Over last weekend, gunman Aaron Alexis went on a violent rampage through Washington Navy Yard, killing 12 people before police ended his life. In a recent development, it was revealed that Alexis had an affinity for playing video games, including Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. According to UK tabloid Mirror Online, friends of Alexis believed that video games were a catalyst for his “dark side”, as they pushed him towards excessive drinking and unstable behavior.
….In other news, according to a Rhode Island police report filed six weeks earlier, Alexis claimed to have heard “voices” emitting from the Naval base and hotel he was assigned to, saying the voices were using “some sort of microwave machine” to enter his body. Despite having three arrests, a history of mental illness, and inactive security clearance, Alexis was still allowed access to the Navy Yard.
