Rockstar Confirms Micro-Transactions And Other Details For ‘GTA Online’

Earlier in the week, a Redditor revealed that GTA Online might feature micro-transactions as a way to accumulate in-game currency; Rockstar has since confirmed this to be true.

GTA Online will feature micro-transactions, but only pertaining to in-game currency; players can spend actual money for “GTA$” cards, which can be used to purchase clothing, weapons, cars, etc. These cash cards come in 4 reasonably-priced amounts:

$100,000 Red Shark Cash Card – $3.00
$200,000 Tiger Shark Cash Card – $5.50
$500,000 Bull Shark Cash Card – $11.00
$1,250,000 Great White Shark Cash Card -$22.00

Cash will be much easier to earn in Online by completing various tasks and challenges, however money earned will not transfer into GTA V; currency is game-specific. Keeping payments strictly to GTA$ also eliminates any notion of a “pay-to-win” model:

“There is no in-game paywall and nothing that should disrupt the balance of the game. You don’t have to spend real money to attain the cars, guns, clothes, flash, and style of a high-roller in Los Santos, but can if you wish to get them a little quicker.”

Rockstar also warns players of potential glitches and bugs within the initial launch window, as “This sort of thing is inevitable in a massive open-world game”; several patches and updates are planned for the first few weeks, including “Content Creator”, which allows players to customize races and deathmatches, and the “Beach Bum Pack”; this addition contains 4 new vehicles, 2 new weapons, and 300 new pieces of clothing. Future updates include a “Capture the Flag” mode, and multi-player “Heist” missions; all of these updates will be free.

GTA Online releases on Oct. 1.
