Nintendo 3DS owners will have plenty in store for them with the next update, as their handhelds will be able to access the Miiverse, manage both eShop accounts, and finally have the option of watching YouTube videos.
Nintendo Direct aired this morning with the reveal of several new features coming to the 3DS. The next software update will include Nintendo Network ID, and will allow 3DS owners to either manage or combine their eShop accounts if they have a Wii U; while a Network ID is required for cross-platform account management, those who do not wish to create an ID can still access and download items from both eShop services. Along with access to console eShop accounts, the 3DS will now have access to another Wii U-exclusive service, the Miiverse social network.
While users will have to wait until December to access these new features, YouTube will finally be available on the 3DS before the end of November; the new YouTube application will allow users to search and browse content by using the bottom screen, and watch videos via the top screen.
YouTube has 3D viewing options for some of its videos, but Nintendo has not confirmed whether or not these videos will be compatible with the 3DS, or will simply play in their original 2D format.
