Ubi Interactive Touch-Surface Software Now Available

The prototype software that turns any surface into a touch-screen interface has moved out of Beta, and is now available to consumers.

Microsoft announced earlier this week that the Ubi is officially ready for the consumer market. Using a Microsoft Kinect for Windows sensor, a projector, and a PC with Ubi Interactive’s software, users can turn any surface into a multi-touch PC display. With the Kinect’s ability to track movement and 3D-map objects, the interface operates in the same vein as a tablet or smartphone, utilizing point-and-click gestures, and “pinching” to zoom in on the display.

Ubi is available in four packages: Basic will support up to a 45″ display, and allows for only 1 touch-point; Professional, Business and Enterprise all support displays of 100″, allow for 1, 2 and 20 simultaneous touch-points, and cost $379, $799 and $1499. All versions of the software provide free updates for a year, however Kinect for Windows is not provided and costs an extra $250.
