Final Prototype Revealed For CastAR

A Kickstarter campaign for CastAR, the augmented-reality system from Technical Illusions, is coming very soon; the wait is over for interested fans and potential contributors, as the design for the final prototype has been revealed.

Technical Illusions consists of a small group of developers dedicated to sharing the world of augmented-reality with the masses, via the CastAR.

CastAR is a real-time augmented reality interface which runs off of Windows and Android platforms: The system uses a pair of specially designed glasses, equipped with two micro-projectors that beam images onto a retro-reflective surface; the user sees the cross-image of the projection and reflection, creating the illusion of a 3D spacial environment. The retro-reflective surface allows for multiple CastAR devices to project onto the same surface without overlapping interference; the surface remains blank to those who aren’t using the glasses, as projections are only visible to CastAR users. An RFID motion-tracker allows the user to move around the projection in real-space, yielding alternate views of the AR-environment; augmented-reality objects can be interacted with via USB wand, Xbox 360 controller, and even figurines:

Technical Illusions visited various conferences over the summer- the most recent being Captivate Conference in Austin, TX- with an ever-evolving version of the CastAR available for attendees to experience; a final prototype was revealed yesterday on their official Facebook page:

Technical Illusions will launch a Kickstarter campaign for the CastAR later this month (a Kickstarter Launch Party will be held on Oct. 15); the expected price of the system is estimated around $200.
