Ready those X-Wings and TIE-Fighters- a new free-to-play aerial combat Star Wars title is coming next year.
Earlier today, Disney announced that a new Star Wars game will be released next year, and is currently in-development by Area 52 Games; Star Wars: Attack Squadrons will be the first new Star Wars game under Disney’s new ownership, and will feature 16-player free-for-all “Deathmatch”, team battles, and team “Base Defense” modes of gameplay. As of right now, Attack Squadrons will be a PC-exclusive and will use the free-to-play (“F2P”) model; micro-transactions have not been confirmed, but new ships and other items will be made available to the player each month, which can be redeemed by using points earned after each match.
Those who want a head start in honing their X-Wing skills can also sign up for a closed Beta, set to launch in early 2014.
