“The Typing Of…” Mode Coming To ‘Skullgirls Encore’

Skullgirls Encore will receive an off-kilter new Co-Op mode featuring sticks and keyboards, with “The Typing of the Skullgirls”.

The Indie fighting game that was once in danger of removal from PSN and XBLA, is now bouncing back with an updated version due for release in January- Skullgirls Encore. The new version will include all current DLC and future additions courtesy of the IndieGoGo campaign; future characters “Big Band”, “Beowulf”, “Eliza” and “Robo-Fortune”. While Encore is only coming to the consoles, the PC version will continue to include updates and other additional DLCs.

A new mode was revealed during last Friday’s “Salty Cupcakes” EightySixed stream; “The Typing of the Skullgirls” is a bizarre combination of the current Skullgirls gameplay, and the frantic skill-based typing from the Typing of the Dead series. This mode requires a controller/arcade-stick and a keyboard for each player, though it’s recommended that someone controls each device individually. During Arcade, Story, and [local] Versus modes, one player will take control of their character in normal Skullgirls fashion; whenever a player initiates a Super, a timed prompt will appear on the screen, which the 2nd player must type in order to increase the power of the Super attack. If the message is typed correctly, the Super is amplified to %150; a failed prompt drops the attack-damage down to %10; if the prompt is completed, but with errors, then the Super does the normal amount of damage:

“The Typing of the Skullgirls” will be unlockable through an in-game code; the mode was designed so players could share the fighting-game experience in an unorthodox way with those who may not be skilled in the genre, or who just want to take a creative approach to the game.

Skullgirls Encore will release sometime in January 2014 on PSN and XBLA; the PC version  will remain unchanged, but continue to receive updates and new features.
