Free Games

Free Stuff Sundays: ‘Noitu Love’, ‘From Hell’s Heart’, ‘Chex Quest’

Short on cash after the holiday season? Beginning today, ThePlatformer will begin compiling a weekly list of free games from across the net for gamers to download.

Noitu Love:

Some may be familiar with the YouTube shows Game Grumps and Steam Train; one of the current series involves Noitu Love 2: Devolution, a PC-exclusive Indie title from maker Joakim “Konjak” Sandberg. Its predecessor, Noitu Love and the Army of Grinning Dawns is a side-scrolling action title set in the distant future of 2188; players take control of Noitu, member of The Peacekeepers League -and the city’s main protection against Prof. Damascus Damnation’s robot army- across several retro-inspired side-scrolling levels. Noitu has a short-range projectile attack, a melee attack, and an arsenal of directional special moves; in some instances, he even has the ability to change into animals.

Noitu Love and the Army of Grinning Dawns is a PC-exclusive, and can be downloaded from Konjak’s website; Noitu Love 2: Damnation is available through his website (distributed through Humble Bundle) and Steam.

From Hell’s Heart:

Recently featured on PCGamer, From Hell’s Heart is an ominous sailing game from developers One More Turn, where the player must search for the lost pages of the protagonist’s journal, while avoiding an untimely death from a monstrous Steampunk-influenced whale. It’s currently in Beta, but From Hell’s Heart is available through One More Turn’s official website for both PC and Mac.

Chex Quest Collection:

Long, long ago, children would dig through cereal boxes just to find a small, promotional toy; whether it was a ring, action figure, trading card, or a…..full PC game? Possibly one of the best marketing ploys for a brand of cereal, Chex Quest was included as a promotional CD in Chex cereal boxes in the mid-90’s. Branded as a “non-violent first person shooter”, Chex Quest was developed in 1996 by Digital Café; the studio would go on to create Chex Quest 2, Chex Quest 3, and various movie-based promotional items, including “Godzilla” screen-savers and an interactive comic for “Virtual Cop”. Chex Quest runs on the original Doom-engine, and follows the adventures of the Chex Warrior and his war against the alien Flemoids on their home planet of Bazoik.

The Chex Quest collection: The zip. file from “Chucktropolis” contains Chex Quest 3; on the level-select screen, each “world” corresponds to each Chex Quest game (i.e. Open Chex Quest 3, select the first world to play Chex Quest 1, second world to play Chex Quest 2, last world for Chex Quest 3).
