Nintendo’s Virtual Console on 3DS is already home to a few Mega Man games, most of which are from the NES “Classic” series; it looks like a few more games will be making their way onto the handheld sometime later this year.
While the complete Mega Man “Classic” series (Mega Man 1-6 for NES) is already available on the 3DS eShop for Virtual Console, Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge is the only game from the GameBoy series to make its way onto the 3DS. Later this year, Capcom plans to bring the rest of the Mega Man GameBoy series onto the platform, with Mega Man II, III, IV, and V. The GameBoy iterations take place between each of their NES counterparts, and use elements from their surrounding games; Mega Man II on GameBoy for instance, features stages and ‘Robot Masters’ from Mega Man 2 and Mega Man 3 on NES. Mega Man V is an entirely original entry in the series, and features the ‘Stardroids’ as enemies, and the ‘Mega Buster’ has been replaced with a projectile rocket-arm attack.
Apart from the GameBoy saga, Megaman Xtreme and Xtreme 2 for the GameBoy Color are also coming to the 3DS eShop later this year. As with the GameBoy series, the Xtreme games use elements from Megaman X 1-3 on SNES, and a few properties from Megaman X4 on the PS1.
Capcom has yet to give an official release date for any of these titles.
