Collectible trophies return for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS, both with their own unique collections to unlock.
Past screenshots from the Super Smash Bros. website hinted at Trophies, though closer to the “Assist” kind found in Brawl. Today’s “Pic of the day” from Game Director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that the collectible trophy features from both Melee and Brawl will return for the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. According to Sakurai’s Miiverse post, each version will have its own unique set of trophies, with the 3DS ones stemming “mainly from handhelds” and Wii U trophies originating from “home-console games”:
Both Melee and Brawl featured a wide array of ways to unlock trophies, from completing various modes with specific characters, to simply having save files from other Nintendo titles on the same GameCube Memory Card. Super Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS has no official release date, but is set to release sometime this year.
