The sequel to the 2012 surprise hit from Dennaton Games and Devolver Digital, Hotline Miami 2 arrives on PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and the PS Vita this Fall.
Back in 2012, a little Indie title from Dennaton Games took gamers by storm; winner of the 2012 Rezzed Expo’s “Game of the Show” award, and PC Gamer’s 2012 “Best Music of the Year” award, the PC-exclusive “‘top down fuck-’em-up’ as classified by some important people in video games” received enough recognition to warrant ports for Mac, Linux, PS3 and PS Vita.
Last year, Dennaton and publisher Devolver Digital announced that a sequel was in development- Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number; as part of the brief teaser campaign, Devolver tweeted a phone number for fans to call, which led them to a typical “wrong number” speech. The original Hotline Miami ad campaign also featured a number for fans to call, which led to a voice-mail system for callers to leave messages about the game, to later be used in a trailer:
Outside of live demos at conventions and cross-overs with other Devolver Digital titles, there hasn’t been much activity on the “media” side of things for Hotline Miami 2 since last summer, however according to the official Facebook page, fans can expect to get their hands on Wrong Number sometime during Q3 2014.
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number will be available for PC, Mac, Linux, PS4 and PS Vita. As the release window approaches, it might be safe to watch the Devolver Digital Twitter page, as several fan-based projects for Hotline Miami were announced through their Twitter account, including the previously mentioned “Voicemails” trailer, and the PS3 launch trailer, created entirely from fan-submitted footage.
