‘Dead Or Alive Xtreme 3’ Announced, Will Not Be Localized

The beach-themed spin-off to Team Ninja’s bombastic fighting series is returning for a third installment, though only for the “Japan and Asian” markets.

The Dead or Alive Xtreme titles are a Microsoft-exclusive spin-off to Tecmo Koei’s and Team Ninja’s lightning-fast 3D fighting saga. Released in 2003, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball featured the ladies of DOA going head-to-head in a volleyball tournament on Zach Island. Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 brought more activities to the side-series, as the 2006 360-exclusive included jet-ski racing, flag races, a hopscotch-style mini-game, volleyball, and character customization. The title later received a handheld remake, with Dead or Alive Paradise for the PSP.

Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei held the first ever “Dead or Alive Festival” this past weekend in Japan. The event featured DOA5: Last Round tournaments, a cosplay contest, along with exhibition matches from pro-level competitors.  Those who attended the event also received codes for attendee-exclusive DOA5: Last Round DLC costumes. During the event, Team Ninja Director Yosuke Hayashi hinted that the studio was working on a new title, featuring DOA characters on vacation at an island. According to a post on the official Dead or Alive Facebook page, that game will be Dead or Alive Xtreme 3– working title “DOAX3”. While the two previous games both saw North American and European releases, Xtreme 3 will not be localized, limiting the release to just “Japan and Asian” audiences:

“Thanks for attending and for watching DOA Festival today. MC Kwiggle (USA-Christie) won the exhibition match and Teru Rock (輝Rock Japan-Leifang) fought intensely with him.

We announced DOAX3 (Working Title) today, but it will be made exclusively for Japan and Asian market.

We announced many things today about new stage, patch update, Halloween costumes etc… We will keep you posted.”

While it was only teased during the event, Hayashi confirmed that more content is on the way for Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, including more stages and costumes, and yet another brand new character.
