The blue hedgehog returns to the Nintendo 3DS library this October.
The 3DS eShop is home to several classic 2D games from Nintendo and other 3rd-party publishers. Some of the most influential titles from the archives of Nintendo and Sega have been updated to showcase the 3DS hardware, with the “3D Classics” series. With the likes of the original Kid Icarus, Xevious, Sonic the Hedgehog and Urban Champion, the 3D Classics titles retain the same gameplay as their original counterparts, but with new stereoscopic visuals.
Sega Genesis legend Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be a part of the 3D Classics series, as announced by Sega earlier this week. Stereoscopic 3D is just one of many features, as the 3DS version will include support for local co-op multiplayer between Sonic and Tails, and “Match Play” online split-screen racing. Players will also have the ability to save-state the game at any time.
The final price has not been confirmed, however 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will release as an eShop-exclusive digital title on 10/8.
