‘Super Mario Odyssey’ Revealed, Coming In Q4 2017

Mario’s largest adventure yet arrives this Holiday season for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo’s iconic Mario franchise is a testament to just how much games have evolved over the past 4 decades and their potential to adapt to just about any genre imaginable; the plumber stars in just about everything, including side-scrolling platformers, turn-based RPGs, 3D adventures, sports competitions, fighting games, and even a handful of learning and child-development titles.

For every new Nintendo console, fans expect a new Mario title to showcase the true extent of the hardware. Following the legacy of Super Mario World (SNES), Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64), Super Mario Sunshine (GameCube), New Super Mario Bros. (Wii) and Super Mario 3D World (Wii U) comes Super Mario Odyssey for the Nintendo Switch. A rather suave-looking Bowser has once again captured Princess Peach with the intent of marrying her, and it’s up to Mario to see that it never happens, even if it means leaving the safety of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Super Mario Odyssey does just that- thrusts players far outside the familiar landscapes of the Mushroom Kingdom and takes them on a trip into unfamiliar territories around the world. Details were scarce during Nintendo’s presentation, however Odyssey will be the largest Mario title to-date, featuring massive sandbox levels based on deserts, forests, food, and a handful of real-world cities under the disguise of “New Donk City”. The title will introduce players to ride-able animals and a new “hat” character to replace Mario’s iconic cap; the new cap can be thrown as a projectile weapon and be used as a floating platform to cross large gaps or give Mario and extra boost up to high ledges.

Super Mario Odyssey is currently scheduled for a Holiday 2017 release.
