Koji Igurashi’s crowdfunded Castlevania successor boasts faster gameplay, updated visuals and a new boss within its recent E3 2017 trailer.
Former Castlevania Producer Koji Igarashi took to Kickstarter two years ago with the intent of funding a spiritual successor to Konami’s famed Gothic-horror franchise, with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Funded just hours after the campaign’s launch, the 2.5D action-platformer was originally expected to release for consoles and PC this year, but has since been delayed to 2018, along with the cancellation of the Wii U version; the Wii U release was canned shortly before the announcement of the Nintendo Switch, with the idea that gamers would have migrated to Nintendo’s new system.
Though it has yet to surface during the large conferences of the event, Bloodstained publisher 505 Games recently released a new gameplay trailer for E3 2017. The brief minute-long video showcases a visual upgrade from the previous Kickstarter Backer demo, new weapons (Whip, Rapier, Katana), and the boss fight against “Bloodless” within the “Church” segment of the game.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will release in early 2018 for PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita and the Nintendo Switch.
