Ninja Theory’s Hellblade will only be a timed-exclusive for the PS4, as a PC version is currently in-development.
Hellblade was announced during Sony’s Gamescom 2014 conference as a PS4 exclusive from Ninja Theory. The third-person action title from the creators of DMC: Devil May Cry and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West will only be a timed-exclusive for Sony’s new console, as a PC version has been confirmed to be in-development.
Ninja Theory is attempting to bring 4K resolution support to the PC version of Hellblade, along with support for player-made content and other mods, in order to provide a “richer” experience that will last through multiple PC hardware generations. According to Ninja Theory’s Tameem Antoniades, the PC version allows the studio to explore “better ways” of approaching game development. While consoles are improving with community-based services including open Betas and multiplayer testing, consoles are “years behind what things like Steam are doing”.
Hellblade is scheduled to release sometime later this year for PS4; it has not been confirmed whether or not the PC version will share the same launch window.
