Both the PS4 and Xbox One will get custom Mortal Kombat X controllers upon the game’s launch, courtesy of peripheral manufacturer PDP.
Fightpad controllers are a unique alternative to the much larger Fight Stick peripherals. While they may not offer the same “arcade” style experience, pad controllers feature a six-button layout found on most stick controllers, along with either a joystick or D-pad for directional input.
During CES 2015 last week, peripheral manufacturer PDP unveiled new Mortal Kombat X Fightpad controllers for both the Sony and Microsoft consoles. According to CNET’s Brian Tong, each controller features a six-button layout on the face, with L1/LB and R1/RB moving to the “Button 3” and “Button 6” positions. Unlike the Street Fighter X Tekken Fightpad from Mad Catz, PDP’s Mortal Kombat X Fightpad includes a D-Pad, instead of the “D-Disc” found on traditional Xbox 360 controllers:
While some fighting game practitioners are finding that their sticks may not work with the next-gen consoles, both the Sony and Microsoft versions of the Fightpads include toggle switches for use with the PS3/PS4 and 360/One. A price has not been revealed, however the PDP Mortal Kombat X Fightpad is suggested to retail for $35-50, based on the prices of past controllers. The Fightpad is expected to release during the same launch window as Mortal Kombat X– this April.
Mortal Kombat X will release on 4/14 for 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PC.
