The previously hinted Shovel Knight Amiibo is indeed real, and heading to stores in the near future.
Watchful Amiibo collectors may have noticed that a Shovel Knight Amiibo figurine appeared earlier this week on GAME Brighton’s Twitter feed. The announcement came a little earlier than expected, but Nintendo of America officially confirmed that the Shovel Knight Amiibo is real, courtesy of a new trailer directed by the Game Grumps.
The Shovel Knight Amiibo figurine will work with both the Wii U and 3DS versions of Shovel Knight, but with different perks for each platform. When the Amiibo is placed on either the Wii U GamePad or the bottom screen of the New 3DS XL, players will unlock additional suits of armor, challenge stages, relics and abilities; exclusively to the Wii U version, the Amiibo also unlocks a 2-player cooperative mode.
An official release date for the Shovel Knight Amiibo has not been confirmed, however the previous GAME Brighton post suggested a late-November release window, plausibly for Europe. The Shovel Knight Amiibo will be the first Amiibo created for an independent third-party studio.
Shovel Knight is currently available through the Wii U and 3DS eShop, with physical versions coming in October, with the free “Plague of Shadows” expansion releasing next month.
