No it’s not an April Fool’s joke- Skullgirls finally goes mobile on the PS Vita next Tuesday.
Developer Lab Zero Games is no stranger to April Fool’s Day announcements and other practical jokes. Shortly after the release of the original Skullgirls, the studio announced a handheld port of the title- “Skullgals”- complete with screenshots; Zone-Tan and Fukua were also announced as playable characters on past April Fool’s Days, with the latter eventually ending up in the final game as a top-secret character.
Earlier today, Lab Zero made an official not-a-joke announcement for the PS Vita port of Skullgirls 2nd Encore. The original release window was scheduled for last Summer, however the title suffered through a series of delays to improve performance, gameplay mechanics and other features. The PS Vita version will now feature touch-screen macro controls, allowing the player to create custom actions performed by tapping the screen. The handheld port features everything included in its PS4 counterpart, with Challenges, Survival Mode, all DLC characters and a voiced Story Mode. Skullgirls 2nd Encore will also be one of the few Sony titles to not only have Cross-Buy between PS4 and the Vita, but the Fighter will support Cross-Play between all Sony consoles- PS Vita, PS4 and PS3. An eight-player “All Play” online lobby is expected to launch through a free patch shortly after the launch of the PS Vita version.
Skullgirls 2nd Encore will release on 4/5 for PS Vita. The title will also support local multiplayer with the PS TV.
