Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons developer Hazelight challenges players with an asymmetric prison escape in A Way Out.
Josef Fares of Hazelight introduced gamers to Hazelight’s next title during the EA Play E3 2017 presentation. Following their success with Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Hazelight will release their next game A Way Out under EA’s Indie program, EA Originals; the program sees independent studios receiving funding from EA, with the studio receiving 100% of profits post-launch.
According to Fares’s ecstatic presentation, A Way Out will be a strictly Co-Op game best experienced in local “couch co-op” split-screen, however the game will include an online two-player option. Players assume the roles of Vincent and Leo, two criminals who intent to escape from the same prison for personal reasons.
Both characters have unique protagonist and supporting roles to play throughout the story; as shown in the debut trailer and accompanying gameplay segment, one side of the screen may switch to a cutscene or one character may engage in dialogue to distract a guard, while the other must perform a hidden task or sneak into a prohibited area. Today’s presentation primarily focused on stealth and puzzle-solving, though A Way Out will also have exploration, action and driving sequences.
A Way Out is expected to release in early 2018 for PC via Origin, Xbox One and PS4.
