Let’s go ahead and lay this to rest: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are indeed two different games, with Ground Zeroes coming in Spring 2014.

It was announced earlier today that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will release next Spring for current and next-gen consoles. MGSV has been the subject of endless fan speculations and theories, and up until today, no one really knew if Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain were truly two separate games, as they have been compared in the past as having the same relationship as the “Tanker” mission from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty; the two were originally announced as separate titles- MGS: Ground Zeroes and “The Phantom Pain“; Kojima stated that the two share the same relationship as the previously-mentioned MGS2 mission to the rest of the game; now both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain share the main title of Metal Gear Solid V, but as different titles….This, and according to GameInformer, Konami now lists Big Boss/Naked Snake/Punished Snake as “the series’ hero”, which conflicts with the already cemented idea that main protagonist Solid Snake is the true hero of the series……

…Wild. 

Anyway, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes will release in Spring 2014 for 360, One, PS3, and PS4: Physical versions and next-gen digital versions are listed at $29.99, with current-gen digital versions being $19.99.
