The long-running King of Fighters series is returning this year with a new title for mobile platforms, however it’s not what fans may have expected.
The first King of Fighters game released back in 1994 in both Japanese and American arcades. One of the first cross-over fighting game series, SNK’s 3-on-3 Fighter featured characters from fighting games Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, along with characters from Psycho Solider and Ikari Warriors. The series has since pulled in several more characters from other franchises, while continuing to build a roster of original fighters. Over two decades, and 15 titles later, King of Fighters is regarded as one of the most popular fighting game franchises of all time.
While the last fighting game in the series- KOF XIII– was released in Fall 2011, a brand new title for 2014 has been announced from SNK Playmore. The franchise will make the leap not just into the mobile platform, but the Rhythm genre as well, with The Rhythm of Fighters: SNK Original Sound Collection. While there’s very little information about the new game, The Rhythm of Fighters appears to use tap/gesture-based controls in order to use attacks- a fusion of KOF and Elite Beat Agents.
The Rhythm of Fighters: SNK Original Sound Collection will be available “soon” for both Android (Google Play) and iOS (App Store) devices.
