Just one of the many surprises from today’s Nintendo Direct, a new Fire Emblem is currently in-development for the 3DS.
Today marked the first Nintendo Direct broadcast of the new year. The nearly one hour long video contained many new announcements and updates, including the release dates for the New 3DS XL, Majora’s Mask 3D, and the North American release of Monster Hunter 4 [Ultimate]. New IPs were revealed for both the 3DS and the Wii U; a new free-to-play multiplayer title code-named “Project Treasure” is in-development for the Wii U by Tekken developer Bandai Namco, while VD-Dev and Nintendo are working on IronFall: Invasion, a new 6-player third-person shooter that promises to run at 60fps (frames-per-second) on the 3DS.
Nintendo kicked off this morning’s presentation with yet another reveal- a new Fire Emblem game. While little is known about the title, the new game is being developed by Intelligent Systems, and will feature the traditional tactical turn-based gameplay found in previous games. The new Fire Emblem has a new story, and will involve deeper levels of player choice, affecting “the game’s world in new ways”.
A release date was not given for the new Fire Emblem. 2012’s Fire Emblem Awakening is the most recent title in the series; since its 3DS release, Lucina and Robin have both made their way into the Smash Bros. series with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS.
