“Reptile” Confirmed For ‘Mortal Kombat X’, New Character Reveal Tomorrow

The agile lizard-ninja Reptile is coming back for more in Mortal Kombat X, along with another mystery fighter to be revealed this Thursday.

Reptile’s legacy began with his cryptic appearance in the original Mortal Kombat. The green-clad ninja would sporadically appear before matches, offering cryptic and often scrambled clues regarding a hidden extra match; if players could win a match on “The Pit” with two Flawless Victories and a Stage Fatality while silhouettes are flying across the moon in the background,  he/she would then fight Reptile at the bottom of The Pit. While he received unique attacks later in the series, the original incarnation of Reptile reused moves from both Scorpion and Sub Zero. As the series progressed, Reptile’s design evolved into a more reptilian character; the original “human” version of the ninja was available as DLC for Mortal Kombat [9].

Yesterday morning, NetherRealm Studios announced that the reptilian fighter would return for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X. Partnered with a new gameplay trailer, the MKX version of Reptile is equipped with several iconic skills, including acid, camoflauge, and the slow-moving acid-ball. The trailer also features another example of character-specific introductions, and a tease at Reptile’s Fatality:

According to Ed Boon’s Twitter, another character will be revealed during tomorrow’s gameplay presentation; the event will air at 3:00pm CST on NetherRealm’s channel.

Early gameplay videos show 24 placeholders on the Character Select screen; 13 characters have already been revealed. Mortal Kombat X will release on 4/14 for Xbox One, PS4, PC, 360 and PS3.
