New ‘Attack On Titan’ Videos Highlight Gameplay Mechanics

Omega Force and Koei Tecmo released a new series of videos featuring the 3D Maneuver Gear in action, allied character interaction, and the frantic gameplay of the “Elite Play” mode.

From the developers behind Koei Tecmo’s Warriors franchise, Attack on Titan is finally coming to consoles courtesy of studio Omega Force. Set to launch as a Sony-exclusive title, Attack on Titan will feature Titan-slashing gameplay across several massive open-world environments. Players must utilize the 3D Manuever Gear to traverse through each envoronment as several popular characters from the anime and manga series; the likes of Eren Jaeger, Mikasa Ackerman, Armin Arlert and Levi Ackerman have all been confirmed to be playable characters in the game.

Attack on Titan publisher Koei Tecmo released a new series of gameplay videos Christmas day, featuring some of the title’s new mechanics. The first clip shows Eren Jaegar flying through the streets of Trost with the 3D Maneuver Gear; for the player to move, the cables of the Maneuver Gear must attached to an object in the environment, akin to the web-swinging mechanics found in Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man. Attack on Titan will feature multi-player co-op, however other members of the Survey and Cadet Corps can be recruited on-the-fly to act as partners on the battlefield. These allied characters will assist in battle and can deploy flares when other characters are in need of rescue. The final “Elite Play” showcases Levi Ackerman gameplay, featuring more active Titans than in other modes:

Attack on Titan will release in Japan for the PS4, PS3 and PS Vita on 2/18; a North American release has been confirmed and will arrive on a later 2016 date.
