Killer Instinct: Season 3 will debut as a cross-buy title through the Windows 10 store, complete with characters Kim Wu and Tusk at launch.
Killer Instinct: Season 3 was announced last year with the debut trailer for Rash, a playable cross-over character from Rare’s infamous Battletoads franchise. A beta version of the bombastic toad was available briefly last Fall, however Rash still remains as the only character to receive an official trailer for the oncoming expansion. She has yet to make an official appearance in the Microsoft-exclusive Killer Instinct reboot, however Kim Wu’s nunchaku are shown at the end of Rash’s trailer.
During a recent Killer Instinct tournament broadcast on Twitch, Microsoft Studios Creative Director Adam Isgreen confirmed yet another classic fighter for Season 3– Tusk. Both Kim Wu and Tusk will be available at launch, complete with alternate costumes based on their original appearances from Killer Instinct 2. Isgreen also hinted at the possibility of more characters having “Ultimate” moves outside of Shadow Jago, along with an updated tutorial and balancing tweaks for unmentioned characters.
In a new press release from Microsoft, it was announced that several titles in their 2016 lineup would be available for purchase through the Windows 10 store, including Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and the upcoming ReCore from Comcept and Armature Studio. Killer Instinct: Season 3 will also be available for purchase through the Windows 10 store at launch as a cross-buy title; those who purchase a single copy through Microsoft’s digital store will receive KI: S3 for both the Xbox One and for PC.
While Killer Instinct may be available for PC, it will only be available through the Windows 10 store, negating compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows 8.
An official release date has not been confirmed, however more details regarding Season 3 is expected to come during PAX South in San Antonio, TX between Jan. 29-31.
Killer Instinct: Season 3 will release exclusively through the Windows 10 store for both Xbox One and PC sometime this March. Season 1 is currently free for Xbox One owners as part of January’s “Games With Gold” promotion.
