‘Odin Sphere’ “Velvet With Cornelius” Statue Releases This Week

The HD release of Odin Sphere may still be a few months away in North America, but die-hard fans can get their hands on a collectible Velvet and Cornelius statue set to release this Tuesday.

Before there was Dragon’s Crown, Grand Knights History and Muramasa: The Demon Blade, the creative minds of Vanillaware gave Sony gamers Odin Sphere. Released in 2007 exclusively for the PS2, Odin Sphere was one of the first games that introduced players to Vanillaware’s iconic 2D artwork and sprites, following the release of GrimGrimoire earlier that year. Often considered to be a spiritual successor to Atlus’s 1997 Sega Saturn classic Princess Crown, Odin Sphere thrusts players into a world inspired by Norse mythology, as told through the eyes of five individual protagonists- Gwendolyn, Cornelius, Oswald, Mercedes and Velvet. Regardless of the chosen character, the title had an overarching story, with each character’s plot intersecting with the others; in some cases, the other characters would even show up as boss fights. This mode of storytelling eventually surfaced again in Vanillaware’s Muramasa: The Demon Blade for the Wii, and the remake Muramasa Rebirth on PS Vita.

Publisher Atlus announced last year that Odin Sphere would receive an enhanced, HD remake for the current Sony consoles; while not yet available in North America, Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir released for Sony consoles in Japan this past January. Die hard fans can curb their appetite however, as a new collectible Odin Sphere statue will release this week. From collectible manufacturer Alter, Odin Sphere‘s own Velvet will receive her own collectible statue, featuring the cursed Prince of Titania, Cornelius. Standing at 23cm/9in tall from the base to the crest of Velvet’s chain, the 1/8th scale PVC-sculpted statue depicts both Velvet and Cornelius’s Pooka form in battle-ready fashion.

The 1/8th scale Odin Sphere “Velvet with Cornelius” statue can be pre-ordered for $124.99 through Play-Asia and other online international outlets, and will release this Tuesday- 4/19.

Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir will release for the PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in North America on 6/7.
