Three years later, the crowdfunded Shantae title comes to shelves complete with a GameStop-exclusive limited edition.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero appeared as a Kickstarter project back in 2013 alongside Comcept’s Mighty No. 9. The fourth game in WayForward’s Shantae series, Half-Genie Hero is a franchise prequel featuring yet another new art style and character designs chosen by Kickstarter supporters. After a brief update hiatus, WayForward announced that the studio was currently securing a publishing deal to distribute physical retail copies of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero; it was confirmed through Twitter that publisher XSEED will now handle physical distribution, with WayForward acting as Shantae‘s digital publisher.
Along with the recent publisher announcement, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has now been officially scheduled to release this September. The physical Wii U, PS4 and PS Vita versions are already listed on GameStop and are available to pre-order online; GameStop is currently the only retailer with physical copies available for pre-purchase. Those who buy any of the three listed versions for $29.99 will receive the Shantae: Half-Genie Hero “Risky Beats Edition”, which includes a 20-song soundtrack.
While the Wii U, PS4 and PS Vita versions are the only retail versions listed, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will release for 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U and PC on 9/27.
