After a slight delay, Shanate fans can finally experience her prequel adventure on consoles and PC later this month.
The fourth title in WayForward’s once Nintendo-exclusive franchise, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero was one of the most successful gaming Kickstarter campaigns of 2013, right beside Comcept’s Mighty No. 9. Half-Genie Hero stars the titular purple-haired genie in her first magical adventure and encounter with series pirate nemesis Risky Boots. With over $400,000 raised, the title secured extra bosses, fan-inspired content, and digital and physical releases across the current generation of consoles (the PC version is digital-only).
Though originally expected to release in September, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will now officially release later this month- in just two weeks. A recent Kickstarter campaign update from developer WayForward also confirms that Kickstarter contributors and “Slacker-Backers” should receive digital codes via email over the next week; affected contributors will receive a digital pre-release copy on the platform of their choice, which will update to the full retail version upon launch day.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will finally release on 12/20 for PC (Steam), Xbox One, PS4, Wii U and PS Vita. Pre-orders are still available across multiple outlets for the “Risky Beats” physical limited edition, containing selections from the game’s soundtrack.
