‘Injustice 2’ Revealed, Gameplay Debut Coming This Saturday

Heroes and villains of the DC universe clash again in Injustice 2, coming to consoles next year.

Following the unexpected clash of DC superheroes and Mortal Kombat warriors, developer Netherrealm Studios returned to the world of comics with 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us. A dystopian look at the DC universe, Injustice throws iconic comic book characters into a violent political struggle after Superman kills Joker following the destruction of Metropolis. With Superman assuming the role of a super-powered dictator, Batman leads a superhuman resistance bent on stopping Superman and his own army of mind-controlled heroes. Netherrealm’s DC Comics fighting game spawned an ever-successful comic book series of the same name from DC and Dark Horse.

Word got out early through NeoGAF and Reddit as usual, however Netherrealm officially revealed Injustice 2 yesterday morning. A direct sequel to Gods Among Us, Injustice 2 picks up after Superman’s Red Sun cell imprisonment; though gameplay is reserved for another date, the debut cinematic trailer teases armor provided by the new RPG-like Gear System, and the first of the new characters- Supergirl.

Injustice 2 will release for Xbox One and PS4 in 2017; gameplay will be shown to the public live this Saturday during the MKX Pro League Season 3 Finals.
