The PC modding community may have beaten SNK and Team Ninja to the punch, but KOF‘s Mai Shiranui is officially coming to Dead or Alive 5 this September.
While the same may not be said for the PC version, Team Ninja and publisher Koei Tecmo have continued to support Dead or Alive 5: Last Round for over a full year following its February 2015 release. The third and presumably final update to Dead or Alive 5, Last Round is the first title to feature Team Ninja’s new “Soft Engine”, capable of rendering finer skin physics, dirt and tanning in real-time; the Soft Engine was later used in the PS4-exclusive beach-themed Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Fortune, with a stripped-down adaptation used in DOAX3 Venus for the PS Vita.
To celebrate the upcoming release of The King of Fighters XIV, Team Ninja and SNK Playmore teased yet another new DLC character for DOA5: Last Round- Mai Shiranui. Though KOF fans must wait to see how Mai’s gameplay transfers into DOA5, a brief 25 sec. trailer gives fans a sneak peak at her new 3D look.
KOF‘s Mai Shiranui is the ninth cross-over character to be featured in Dead or Alive 5: Last Round; Naotora Ii of Samurai Warriors fame, Virtua Fighter‘s Akira, Pai, Sarah and Jacky are all playable alongside Ninja Gaiden‘s Ryu Hayabusa and Momiji; while Ayane appears in the Ninja Gaiden series, the character made her debut in the original Dead or Alive.
The Mai Shirinui DLC is expected to release sometime this September for Xbox One and PS4. Additional KOF DLC has not been confirmed.
