Kickstarter games Toejam and Earl 4 and Battle Chef Brigade now have an official publisher- Adult Swim Games.
Adult Swim is the mastermind behind Cartoon Network’s late-night shenanigans; a co-division of Time Warner and Cartoon Network, Adult Swim provides night-owl audiences with mature adult-oriented shows deemed unsuitable for Cartoon Network’s usual audience, including ‘Metalocalypse’, ‘Rick and Morty’ and ‘Robot Chicken’. The network is also responsible for the return of Cartoon Network’s Toonami, a late-night session of popular anime, with the current schedule featuring ‘One-Punch Man’, ‘Dragon Ball Z Kai’, ‘Parasyte -the maxim-‘ and others.
When Adult Swim isn’t promoting a blend of macabre and unorthodox humor on Cartoon Network, the team acts as a game publisher of both the Flash and Indie kind; Robot Unicorn Attack and other popular browser games are currently hosted within the Adult Swim website. Their gaming division- Adult Swim Games- recently expanded into Indie territory, acting as a digital and physical publisher for such games as Headlander (Double Fine), Rise & Shine (Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team), Westerado: Double Barreled (Ostrich Banditos), and Landon Podbielski’s Duck Game.
Two more games were revealed to have Adult Swim as their new publisher, both of which stem from successful Kickstarter campaigns. From developers Humanature Studios and Trinket Studios, Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove and Battle Chef Brigade were both funded in 2015 and are set to release under Adult Swim Games. Following a near 15-year hiatus, Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove sees the return of the titular space aliens in a gameplay callback to the early Genesis and Mega Drive games, featuring 2D visuals and massive exploration-heavy levels. Battle Chef Brigade masterfully blends the appeal of Cooking and Puzzle games with a side-scrolling Action-RPG, where players must hunt and craft dishes in real-time against skilled opponents.
Neither Battle Chef Brigade nor Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove have a definitive release date, however both games will release digitally for consoles and PC; both games are listed on Steam, though users are unable to pre-purchase either title.
