The battle for the Infinity Stones begins in the debut gameplay trailer for MVC Infinite.
Earlier today, Capcom set off a tornado of hype with the official reveal of Marvel VS Capcom Infinite. Making its worldwide debut at the 2016 PlayStation Experience this afternoon, the latest clash of Marvel and Capcom heroes features the gaming and comic icons battling in classic 2v2 fashion- not present in the series since the original Marvel VS Capcom (“Origins” on PSN).
A press release from Capcom confirmed the return of the “Gem” system from Marvel Super Heroes, only this time under the guise of the titular Infinity Stones; the prevalent thread of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Infinity Stones are a series of cosmic gems that imbue their holder with supernatural abilities. Combined with the Infinity Gauntlet, the Stones can be wielded as an inconceivably powerful weapon capable of tearing apart reality itself.
The gameplay debut of Marvel VS Capcom Infinite occurred in the closing moments of tonight’s Capcom Cup Final 8 event. Though brief, fans can get a look at Ryu, X, Iron Man and Captain Marvel going head-to-head in a 2v2 tag-team fight. The Power and Time Stones have cameos, granting Ryu and Captain Marvel overwhelming strength and super-speed.
Marvel VS Capcom Infinite will release for PC, Xbox One and PS4 sometime in 2017.
