The latest trailer for the Senran Kagura shooter gives fans an extra look at the additional gameplay modes and mechanics.
Just 5 years after its Japanese debut, the Senran Kagura franchise has already proven to be one of Japan’s more versatile gaming properties, existing through 2D side-scrollers, a series of 3D hack-and-slash titles, a rhythm/cooking hybrid game, a mobile-exclusive trading-card social game, and a popular 12-episode anime series. The original brainchild of Kenichiro Takaki, Senran Kagura is about to shift genres yet again, this time into 3rd-person shooter territory.
Announced last year for the PS4, Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash is a multiplayer 5v5 shooter using water-guns as opposed to real weapons. For the few who actually care about the plot, the numerous factions of ninja schoolgirls are whisked away to another tropical island, forced to compete in a sacred water-sports event for faction pride and superiority. Peach Beach Splash outshines the previous beach-themed game- Sony-exclusive hack-and-slash Senran Kagura: Estival Versus– with a cast of over 30 characters spanning across the Nintendo, Sony and Mobile games, with more coming as future DLC. Each character will have access to five weapons, each of which can gain three extra upgrade-levels as the match progresses.
Developer and publisher Marvelous Entertainment recently released a new 5min. trailer for Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash as both an extended preview of the title’s other features and a light commemoration of Senran Kagura’s 5th Anniversary. Though it’s presented entirely in Japanese, the latest trailer includes a brief introduction to Peach Beach Splash‘s Story Mode, along with a look at the weapon upgrades and additional stages. Outside of the core multiplayer modes, players can engage in the challenges of Mission Mode, customize each character’s clothing in the Dressing Room. The in-game Trading Card system also makes a brief appearance; Cards are unlocked after each match, which can be used to summon special attacks or give characters a temporary stat-boost.
Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash will release exclusively for the PS4 in Japan on 3/16.
