New ‘Senran Kagura’ Shooter Coming To PS4, Limited Editions Revealed

The Senran Kagura franchises switches genres once again, this time towards competitive shooter territory.

Kenichiro Takaki’s Senran Kagura franchise originally began as a fast-paced 2D side-scroller for the Nintendo 3DS, with each of the buxom ninja schoolgirls having their own bombastic attacks and special moves; while it was refined in later installments, with proper execution, players could perform infinite combos for maximum damage and easy experience points. The series has since found other homes on the PS Vita, PS4 and mobile devices, spanning the 3rd-person Hack-and-Slash, Card, and Rhythm/Cooking genres.

Senran Kagura developer Marvelous Entertainment recently announced Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash as the latest installment in the popular franchise. Scheduled to release exclusively for the PS4 next year, Peach Beach Splash is a beach-themed 5-on-5 competitive team shooter. Featuring more than 30 playable characters from across the franchise, each ninja-in-training has access to 10 water-gun types, ranging from Gatling-guns to sniper rifles. According to a recent interview with Takaki, Marvelous is working to balance Peach Beach Splash for newcomers and veterans of 3rd-person competitive shooters. The studio also plans on adding extra story content and characters from the Japanese mobile card games through DLC, and a potential gameplay mode with PlayStation VR support.

Three versions will be available when Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash releases in Japan next March: Apart from the standard retail release, fans can purchase the the “Nyuu Nyuu DX Pack” for $99.99, containing an art book, 5 exclusive DLC packs, physical soundtrack, and a Blu-Ray disc featuring the “Nanarock Festival” OVA and Senran Kagura 5th Anniversary footage; though currently unavailable, hardcore Senran Kagura fans can get their hands on the “Super Limited Nyuu Nyuu 5th Anniversary DX Pack” featuring all content from the previous Limited Edition, plus a “Yumi” character mouse pad- 4x larger than a standard mat- with life-sized “wrist support”.

Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash will release for the PS4 exclusively for Japanese audiences on 3/14/2017. PS4 is the only confirmed platform, however Takaki expressed interest in bringing the title to Steam in the future in an interview with DualShockers.
