It’s been a long and arduous journey, but the crowd-funded DLC content for Skullgirls will finally come to consoles next year, along with a revamped version of the Indie fighting-game; Skullgirls Encore.
The tale of Skullgirls has certainly been a roller-coaster of sorts, from an astonishingly successful IndieGoGo campaign, to Konami’s delisting request just last week. Fortunately, Lab Zero Games has some good news for fans of the wild 2D fighter: Skullgirls will temporarily be removed from PSN and XBLA at the end of the month, but will return as a new game with all of the additional content promised through the crowd-funding campaign, and currently included in the PC version. The new version- Skullgirls Encore– will arrive sometime in January 2014, once the publisher transition has been finalized.
A complete, region-specific rundown on how to obtain Skullgirls Encore is available on Lab Zero’s official website, but the condensed version [for the US] is as follows:
PSN:
- Those who purchased an original copy of Skullgirls will receive Encore for free, in the same format as a Cross-Buy title
- In order to redeem, Encore needs to be downloaded from its official PSN Store page
- Squigly will be available upon release, and will be free for the initial 3 months
- PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED DLC IS INCOMPATIBLE WITH SKULLGIRLS ENCORE
- Skullgirls Encore is a completely new title; Save Data, Trophies and Leaderboards WILL NOT TRANSFER
- The Character Color DLC Bundle will be temporarily free upon Encore‘s release
XBLA:
- Skullgirls Encore will be issued as a patch to the original version; Save Data, Achievements and Leaderboards will remain unchanged
- Existing DLC purchased with the original version WILL BE COMPATIBLE WITH ENCORE
- A mandatory Compatibility Pack DLC will be issued to all owners of the original Skullgirls in order to upgrade
- Skullgirls will be temporarily removed from the XBLA Marketplace, but Online play will still remain intact during this period
- Squigly will be available upon release, and will be free for the initial 3 months
- The Character Color DLC Bundle will be temporarily free upon Encore‘s release
The PC version will remain unaffected during the publisher-changeover and Encore upgrade. Those who want to see more Skullgirls action on a tournament-level can vote for its potential appearance at EVO 2014 over at EventHubs.
