Two new trailers for Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat X introduce the offspring of iconic characters, along with the return of “Brutalities”.
While some fans are still confused as to how some characters are returning for the tenth installment of Mortal Kombat, a new trailer shows off a glimpse of the new story, set over two decades after the Mortal Kombat [9] retcon. Along with the daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, several new characters have been revealed to be the offspring of previous Mortal Kombat icons. Those appearing in the trailer include Cassie Cage, Jacqueline Briggs (Jax’s daughter), Takashi Takeda (Kenshi’s son), and Kung Jin (Kung Lao’s descendant). An unmasked Sub Zero is present in the trailer, sporting the same scar found in Mortal Kombat 4. Shinok and Mileena are also revealed in the Story trailer, with the latter possibly being the main antagonist:
Select Mortal Kombat titles featured “Brutalities” as an alternative match-finishing technique. These less-gory finishing moves often played out as an extended combo move, much like Killer Instinct‘s “Ultra Combo” finishers. A new trailer shows that Brutalities will be present for Mortal Kombat X, though they may be much gorier than some remember:
Mortal Kombat X will release on 4/14 for PC, Xbox One, PS4, 360 and PS3. Various retailer and platform-specific Collector’s Editions and special editions are available for pre-order.
