From the creator of Senran Kagura and Half-Minute Hero comes Valkyrie Drive, a new video game/anime cross-media series debuting later this year.
This weekend marked AnimeJapan 2015. where several new anime series, manga titles and story-driven Japanese-exclusive games are announced. During the event, Senran Kagura Writer and Producer Kenichirō Takaki and publisher Marvelous were on hand to announce a new cross-media project, planned to debut on consoles, mobile devices, and as an anime series.
Scheduled to debut sometime later this year, Valkyrie Drive is the brainchild of Kenichirō Takaki, and Hiraku Kaneko of Queen’s Blade (Original Character Design), The Qwaser of Stigmata (Director) and Maken-Ki! (Director). While few details were given at AnimeJapan 2015, Valkyrie Drive involves pairs of women, in which one can physically transform into a weapon upon arousal. According to a loose translation from Famitsu, a new viral strain turns women into “arms”, with the ability to turn into a weapon after being kissed or aroused. Corporations have obtained a sample of the virus, and have engineered it to accelerate and control Arms at will, thus resulting in an increase in military activity and destructive crime.
Valkyrie Drive: Bhikkhuni is currently in-development for undisclosed consoles; no details were given, but there’s a possibility that it may be a third-person action game, in the same field as the Senran Kagura titles; Valkyrie Drive: Siren will be a free-to-play social game for mobile platforms, potentially iOS and Android. Both titles will be led by Kenichirō Takaki, and published under Marvelous Entertainment.
Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid is the upcoming anime series, produced by Studio ARMS and Hiraku Kaneko; also known as “ARMS Corporation”, Studio ARMS is behind such series as Elfen Lied, Ikkitousen, Girl’s High and Queen’s Blade.
More information as it unfolds can be found at the official Valkyrie Drive website.
