For those who missed out on WayForward’s Kickstarter campaign, fans still have two more weeks to pre-order Shantae: Half-Genie Hero before the PayPal store closes.
Last September, WayForward launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new Shantae game. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero was successfully funded, with fans contributing more than $770,000- well over the proposed goal of $400,000. While it isn’t the first title to release outside of Nintendo’s handhelds (Game Boy Color, DSiWare, 3DS eShop), the Shantae prequel will be the first chapter to appear on Sony and Microsoft consoles.
Even though the Kickstarter campaign has long since ended, fans have been able to pre-order the game through a PayPal store hosted by WayForward. According to the most recent campaign update, the PayPal store will be closing on 12/16. Once the store has closed, Kickstarter backers can no longer alter their pledge tiers, and fans can no longer pre-order Half-Genie Hero by means of Kickstarter; it’s possible that a pre-order option will open up through the official WayForward website.
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero will release for 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, PS Vita, Wii U and PC via Steam. The last chapter of the Shantae trilogy, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is currently available for the Nintendo 3DS via the eShop.
