‘Overwatch’ Update Adds “Sombra” And “Arcade Mode”

Sombra is out of the PC-exclusive PTR and ready for public gameplay.

Blizzard issued a new update this morning across the console and PC versions of Overwatch. Apart from a slew of gameplay balance tweaks, the update unlocked Sombra for all players. Officially announced at BlizzCon 2016 after a lengthy and perplexing ARG (“augmented-reality game”), Sombra was revealed to be an elite hacker of Mexican descent, currently allied with the terrorist unit Talon alongside Widowmaker and former Overwatch/Blackwatch member Gabriel “Reaper” Reyes. Equipped with a “Translocator”, “Thermoptic Camo”, EMP and a short-range Machine Pistol, Sombra is one of the more versatile offensive characters, as her abilities can easily lock-down and disable enemy shields, and prevent players from activating their Ultimate attacks.

While Sombra may be the highlight of today’s update, the patch includes the new Arcade Mode; akin to the custom match systems found in other online shooters, Arcade lets players manually select the rules for each match, including the map, player count (1v1, 3v3, etc.), or special regulations from the ever-rotating Brawl events.

Overwatch is available for PC, Xbox One and PS4; today’s patch also adds PS4 Pro support.
