The ninja-schoolgirl saga returns home to Nintendo later this year with Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura.
Nintendo unleashed a flurry of Nintendo Direct presentations this week for North America, Europe and Japan regarding future Nintendo Switch and 3DS games, Amiibos, and upcoming Switch titles Splatoon 2 and ARMS. Though most of the announcements were universal, each Direct included a handful of region-specific updates.
Valkyrie Drive, Uppers and Senran Kagura creator Kenichiro Takaki made a surprise appearance during the Japanese Nintendo Direct to announce a new Senran Kagura title for the Switch. Currently under the working title “Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura”, Takaki believes that the Switch’s Joy-Con motion controls will allows fans to interact with the world of Senran Kagura in a whole new light, possibly through the fourth-wall as suggested by the promotional keyart of Asuka holding the player’s hands. Depicted by the most casually-suggestive display of “research”- balloons and jiggling plates of flan- Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura will make full use of the Joy-Con HD Rumble system.
Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura is expected to release in Japan later this year as a digital eShop title; a reminder for the hardcore Senran Kagura fans, the Switch is Nintendo’s first region-free console.
