The console versions of the upcoming BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma update will feature cross-platform play, however the handheld PS Vita port will be left out in the cold.
BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend is the future update to the current release of Chrono Phantasma. Technically the sixth title in the main Fighter series (Calamity Trigger, Continuum Shift, CS Extend, CS II, CS II Extend, CP), BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma originally released as a PS3-exclusive title; the updated version will release not only for the PS3, but for the PS Vita, and make its next-gen debut on the Xbox One and PS4.
Earlier this week, Arc System Works revealed that the PS3 and PS4 versions will feature “Cross Play”, Sony’s inter-platform online multiplayer feature. Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- was the latest Arc System Works title to feature Cross Play, as both PS3 and PS4 users can play against each other in public lobbies and customized private rooms. The PS4 version however, featured an additional stat-tracking mobile app, created for high-level tournament play. While the console versions of BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend will feature online Cross Play functionality, those with the PS Vita version can only play against other handheld users. The PS Vita version will also not include the online “Lobby” feature found in the console versions.
North American and European release dates have not been scheduled, however BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend will launch on PS3, Xbox One, PS4 and PS Vita on 4/2 in Japan. The updated version adds two new playable characters, and an extended Story Mode featuring the main characters from the manga, “BlazBlue: Remix Heart”.
