Three multiplayer modes and an alternate character have been revealed for the PS4 and Vita versions of Senran Kagura: Estival Versus.
Earlier this week, Marvelous revealed more details regarding the highly-anticipated PS4 and PS Vita brawler, Senran Kagura: Estival Versus. While a previous trailer teased that the console release would have 10-player online modes, new information states that the PS Vita release will also have online support, though limited to 4-players. Regardless of platform, players are able to compete in “Point Battle”, “Capture the Brag” and “Panty Collection Battle”.
Point Battle is a traditional online mode where players are rewarded points for landing specific attacks or defeating opponents, while Capture the Brag and Pants Collecting are variations on classic modes with a Senran Kagura-style spin:
Capture the Brag is a dynamic take on “Capture the Flag”, where the flag is designated to a single player, and not an entire team. In this mode, the player holding the “brag” (i.e. a flag assembled from bras) is given a stat-boost for every bra within the flag; with every kill, the flag gains more bras, boosting the player’s strength. If the player with the brag takes damage, the brag loses bras, thus weakening the player; the brag is transferred to the player that defeats the current flag-holder. The winner is decided when the brag reaches a certain amount of bras, or by whoever is holding the brag when the match-time ends.
Panty Collection Battle can be compared to that of the “Coin” option from the Super Smash Bros. series. In this mode, panties are scattered about the stage for players to collect, though the player will lose them if he/she takes damage or is defeated. The player with the largest amount of panties at the end of the match is declared the victor.
While all three modes will be available for both the PS4 and PS Vita versions of Senran Kagura: Estival Versus, Marvelous has not stated whether or not they will support Sony’s “Cross-Play” feature. This may be unlikely, due to the console’s 10-player support against the Vita’s 4-player options.
A few weeks ago, Sayuri was revealed to be one of the whopping 25 playable characters. Screenshots and character-artwork were released several weeks ago, however more details have been revealed regarding the wife of Hanzo and Asuka’s grandmother. Not only is Sayuri theoretically strong enough to rival Hanzo himself, but she also possesses the ability to transform into a younger version of herself. Her alternate form- Jasmine- holds the same strength as her older self, and wields a pipe and its smoke as her weapon of choice.
Senran Kagura: Estival Versus will release for the PS4 and PS Vita in Japan on 3/26. North American and European versions have not been confirmed, though due to the popular demand of the series and the international releases of past installments, localized ports are a certain possibility. Those who purchase a 64GB Memory Card from select Japanese retailers will also receive exclusive DLC at launch.
